Upp was the debut self-titled album of former English rock/jazz fusion band Upp, and was released in 1975. The album was recorded at Escape Studios, Kent. The opening track "Bad Stuff" showcases charismatic guitar playing by Jeff Beck. Strong affiliation of funk music is felt in the tracks "Get Down in the Dirt", "Friendly Street" and "Give It to You". Jeff Beck produces and plays guitars on this album with no mention of him on the album's liner notes.

Steve the bass player was Amazing. But let's not forget the drummer Jimmy Copley. He's got the groove alright, and the pocket. Superb rhythm section.

Steve was way ahead of his time.Poor guy died in mysterious circumstances.I was Upp's roadie in the early days,Steve and I did a lot of stuff together, when the band split it was too much for him and I think he stayed in his room for about 5 years.Goddamit if I'd known he was in trouble I'd have gone to see him,I only lived a few miles away from his Bromley home.

*Upp - Give It To You*Upp is a jazz rock funky fusion band, produced by Jeff Beck in the middle of the 70's and in which he played few many guitar parts. In my opinion, Stephen Amazing (aka Steve Fields) is one of the best bassists I've ever heard (unfortunately unrecognized because of a short carreer which can be come down to the both Upp albums). His way of playing (with all the fingers or with plectrum) , his natural groove and inspiration is unique in the history of jazz and funky music. He deserves to be rehabilitated, doesn't he ?PS : I can't find here a category which tally with this kind of music, so I post it in Funky Jazzy Black... PS 2 : the unique video of a Stephen Amazing performance : Upp & Jeff Beck "Down in the dirt" Bass solo

Alors là, branchez vos casques et ACCROCHEZ-VOUS, c'est du RARE et du SUPER balèze. Le bassiste compte parmi mes 10 bassistes préférés et c'est grâce à lui si je me suis mis un jour à la basse. C'est parti, go !
