Up To The Mountain (MLK Song) - Patty Griffin

I went up to the mountain

Because you asked me to

Up over the clouds

To where the sky was blue

I could see all around me

Everywhere

I could see all around me

Everywhere

Sometimes I feel like

I've never been nothing but tired

And I'll be walking

Till the day I expire

Sometimes I lay down

No more can I do

But then I go on again

Because you ask me to

Some days I look down

Afraid I will fall

And though the sun shines

I see nothing at all

Then I hear your sweet voice, oh

Oh, come and then go, come and then go

Telling me softly

You love me so

The peaceful valley

Just over the mountain

The peaceful valley

Few come to know

I may never get there

Ever in this lifetime

But sooner or later

It's there I will go

Sooner or later

It's there I will go

I want to live a life so fully and beautifully, that when the earth reclaims this shell of mine, my children find themselves enfolded in the comforting embrace of my legacy pouring out from the outstretched arms of many. I want to live so sincerely, that the legacy I leave carries only one name. Home. Call me home...

Our precious son lived in Wyoming and Utah for a few years and loved the mountains! He joked that they were created for his enjoyment. He had a view of the mountains from his apartment window in Ogden where he lived. He died March 2 from the result of major injuries caused from a horrific car accident while on his way to work. Our niece beautifully belted this song out at his funeral and it blew everyone away! I always love hearing it; my heart and soul cry and sing at the same time! Amen

Boston Children's Choir just sang this at Interfaith tribute to those that were hurt or lost loved ones in the bombing at Marathon. Was amazing tribute and this is an amazing song.
