So sorry to hear Ian McLagan died yesterday. Mac was a great soulful player, & an underacted singer & composer. Have a listen to the beautiful gem, people sometimes forget he wrote this. He signed a fiver for my mate once...... Cheers Ian x

Hi There, This is a great song. I'm not sure who wrote it but I know that this song was based on Ronnie's childhood when his Dad would carry him up the stairs to tuck him into bed every night he would sing Ronnie a song by this title. Sadly, Ronnie's Mother had MS, the same disease that would eventually claim Ronnie's life. Thankfully he and his brother Stan had a very loving Dad. Oh Great! You're so lucky to get to see Mac, Enjoy it for me too PLEASE! Take Care ~Kathy~ =)

McLagan was the keyboardist. I think you mean Kenney Jones.

IAN SAID THIS SONG IS BASED ON A TUNE RONNIE'S DAD WOULD SING TO HIM EVERY NIGHT AS HE CARRIED HIM UP THE STAIRS TO TUCK HIM INTO BED! I LIKE THE TICKING CLOCK SOUND... AND DID YOU HEAR THE LITTLE SCREAM AT THE END...? NIGHTMARE? HIS MOTHER HAD MS AND THAT WAS VERY HARD ON EVERYONE! THANK GOD HE HAD SUCH A LOVING FATHER! WE LOVE YOU RONNIE!

@tartarboursain, that's just the way Britons pronounce "shire."

I remember when they were in their element in the late 60's.Steve was living in Saffron Walden in Essex when he died. There was a good turnout for his funeral in Harlow too,R.I.P.Steve,Murray & Family.

what a nice touch from Ian, he was so essential to their sound...the S.F. could be quite evocative with such a simple pop tune!!

takes me back to the 1960's, too, but with my dad reminding me to go up those wooden hills to bedfordshire at the end of a long day. The phrase comes from the title of a Vera Lynn song -- 1930 -- must've been millions of kids hearing those words all across England . . .
