1996 was the year that beef between Cash Money and Big Boy records exploded on wax, with the U.N.L.V. dropping the infamous Mystikal diss "Drag Em N Tha River." The two labels had traded small jabs before, with Mystikal dropping what was assumed to be a Cash Money diss with "Beware" on his 1995 re-release of Mind of Mystikal. U.N.L.V. (representing 6th and Baronne in the 3rd Ward) pulled no punches with their 1996 response on Uptown 4 Life, starting with a reference to "Beware" and the infamous reference to Mystikal being a male cheerleader at Walter Cohen High School (years later Mystikal rapped about why he became one). The diss became legendary, especially because of the beat, which Juvenile (by then friends with Mystikal) would later use in 2001 for his track "Set it Off."

For the record, I'm a fan of Cash Money and Mystikal both. Here are the lyrics:

[Yella]

You fake cheerleadin' b**ch! You want a ni**a like me to beware, huh?

I'mma show you some spokes right now, you b**ch you

[Tec-9]

Take them braids out his head Yella

[Chorus-Yella & Tec-9]

I'ma drag him from the river dump his body in Chuck's yard

Leavin' a note around his neck readin' BAD A** YELLA BOY

Oooooh he wants some? Ain't that cold?

YOUS A HOE MYSTIKAL

YOUS A HOE MYSTIKAL

See I'm from the 3 and I don't give a f**k

And I know you thought I wouldn't be back but you can't keep me down

Don't forget about the U and the Cash Money Clowns

[1st Verse-Yella]

I'm from the 3 and I don't give a f**k, for the record

Once again it's the fellow with the Chuck's

I'm back up on the scene with the tool like a Viper

Get in so much war I think I'm straighter than a sniper

Mystikal you b**ch, are you ready for the drama?

Told your hoe a** people hoe don't run I'll kill yo Mama

If I catch ya wit your draws down I'mma do ya

Once upon a time I up the roof and gimme the cruiser

[Chorus]

[2nd Verse-Yella]

I be the jack of all trades don't make me splizit, your f**kin' head

The queen I mean the King , I mean he learned many trades

Comin' to get'cha round the pen, ready to unwrap your braids

Gay blade, now what'cha wats do? My n**s you can chew

Because they told me you wanted to battle

Time for you to scaddattle

You ain't bout no B-1 Doc show, don't make me bust you up

Graze the left, the uppercut, the roundhouse, sidestep, bolo

Let go of my shirt you hoe, bloods up on my Polo

[Chorus]

[3rd Verse-Yella]

Stop playin' with me, stop playin' with me b**ch, stop playin' with me

I'm like the B.G.'z I'm gat totin'

But this time it's the bulldog barrel smokin'

I hope they catch and chop ya down, tear ya a** apart

Thrash all the swine touch down your brains on the ground

I gots the gat spell it backwards,

that's what I do up on that a** ya b**ch I'm not an actor

I'm comin' dumpin' on ya fake punk wannabe

I warned ya too many times to watch the bloody tragedy

I got the diamonds to the Bauds, twinkle up your golds

Now spin the bin, in the turtleneck Polo cuz I don't care

f**k what you sayin' about beware

I'm tired of tellin' you that I'm a donkey ni**a,

Stop playin'

[Chorus]

[4th Verse-Yella]

Up in the front room, in the whirlaround, the brown table

Are you able? Capable? All of a sudden, um...

I had to pop em, I had to pop em

A top authority, respect is what I need

Hollow tips in the clips just to make your a** bleed

Its time to drop this pu**y with the braids off see

I'ma dump his body in Chuck yard, UNLV

I told this Mr. Cheerleader not to f**k with me

I told ya to keep my f**kin' name out ya f**kin' mouth

You didn't do it now it's time to take your a** out

[Chorus]

[5th Verse-Yella]

I gets lowdown and dirty with the 30-30

Because I'm in your neighborhood plus my nose dirty

I'm into Chuck's house, off deliverin' the bad luck

As I spin the bin with speed, it's too late to duck

I'm like Jim Harbaugh, puffin' on a hot Marlboro

I'm strictly with that a**hole and comin' to down ya far

Why did I ask would I please leave ya alone ya see?

I caught my enemies slippin' gettin' groceries

I waits behind the mailbox like an old drunkard,

As Archie Bunker, comfortable? You b**ch you

You see I walk by, I ride by, I drive by too

I got's to hang a .45 and a AP-9 too

[Chorus] (4X)

I always thought this beat was sick, but I first heard it with Juve rappin over it. I like both versions...but it just goes to show you that REAL music is timeless! There was a five year gap between both songs and it sounds like they didn't even update the beat!

The first time I heard this song here in Dallas, was like in summer of '98, and it would come on the radio at night time only. Back when no cussing("ass" was censored back then on radio and tv) at all was allowed on air, and this track was heavily censored for radio play too. We all knew who Mystikal was by that time, because everyone was jamming all that No Limit stuff. First time I heard of Mystikal was when that "y'all ain't ready yet" video came out in '95, and it would come on the cable tv channel "The Box", it was like a pay per request channel.
