well, they changed up some of their gear. no surprise. d'you know they had a good old fashioned rock band in the late 80s? the production that got them dance music fans in the early 90s was good, but was nothing compared to what that band could do. what you mean is you gave their new stuff (very clubby) plenty of chances to sound like the stuff they were doing 15-20 years ago, but like the other guy on here, you obviously pay no attention to the through lines combined with a different new sound.

sounds don't stay the same, especially not nowadays. this track is a perfect example, it's very "sample(r) based" anybody who doesn't get the last album never payed any attention to the subtly transcendental vibe of 'underneath the radar", obviously

i see. thanks. its been a mystery to me, but it's a damn shame in my book how they could break up one of the best techno/ambient collaborations of all time after a record like BFish. I know moaner was added on from batman, but the new material was still innovative while keeping within the underworld framework. i guess i just wanted more. i have given the new underworld plenty of chances, but....nope.

Each side of that collab simultaneously motivated/drove the other side, while reigning in their less successful tendencies. Hyde/Smith brought texture and flavor, Darren made them give it structure and a club friendly rhythm.

i know thats what i wanted to say, but the credits for dark and long, dirty epic, and cowgirl (all top 10 in my book, well maybe not dark and long, but still great) are strictly written by hyde/smith. i could be wrong, maybe emerson "produced" it, making it brilliant. but emerson only produced a few good tracks (not brilliant) on his nascent label H2O underwater; his stuff post-underworld isnt very good either. go figure.

Much though I love this track - and it's one of my all-time favourites - I can't help hearing Queen - We Will Rock You on the rhythm. Separately, I vote 'Skin hard as sails in a gale' similie of the milennium.....
