He came so Jeff could play guitar on his own songs. Jeff always plays bass on Jay songs.

Why is Jeff playing bass and John playing guitar? John came into the band to play bass so Jeff could switch to 2nd guitar.

Jay and Jeff might no longer be friends, but they won't find anyone else to put together those rough-cut harmonies as well as they did.

Forget Wilco, forget Son Volt. This is a band creating the sound you all love. Both of them are good, but this is where they came from, and it shouldn't be overshadowed by two bands that could never be this.

I like Son Volt, and I like Wilco. I heard Tweedy do a cover of Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate"... it was pretty good. And I've seen Jay solo a couple of times... good stuff. Also saw Son Volt once at an outdoor show, mid 90's. I think they complemented each other in Uncle Tupelo. Sure would love to see a reunion.

Country-Punk...Alt. Country? It's Rock n' Roll!

Ah, for a reunion! Maybe Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter could get Farrar and Tweedy back together for just one show. I'd be there!!!!

@dsclothe I read that UT was trying to emulate D Jr. in their early stuff.

Why would you even compare the two? I liked both of them the best in Uncle Tupelo, but I've seen Son Volt and Jay solo many times, and they were wonderful. It's just all in what you like!!
