It is true that Pavarotti and so many other performers wanted to be Mario Lanza. The new book about Lanza, "A Kid from Philadelphia, Mario Lanza, the Voice of the Poets," explains this in beautifully poetic terms.

Quite possibly one of the finest singers that ever lived! I grew up watching Mario Lanza's wonderful films (wish they'd release them on blu-ray) and as a singer myself, I try to sing with the passion that he did, concentrating on the lyric and letting the voice take care of itself. Anyway, thanks for posting even though I have this film on VHS somewhere :-)

wow he sounds better here than many other recordings I have heard. he has the mix of power and finesse here, the talent is incredible. Perhaps there are many poor recordings of him out there.

El pianista se parece al Tío Gamboín.

Actually this early Mono recording for the film being is fine without the echo / reverb RCA put in many recordings later in the Mid 50's and his voice sounds so natural. Surely a great voice.

Beautifully done by one of the greatest tenors of our time. His voice, speaking & vocally had warmth & passion to it unsurpassed by no one. May Mario Lanza's superb talent live on with these videos, his Dvd's & CD's for many generations to come. Thanks for sharing this outstanding video with everyone to enjoy.

Dear George Washington- hardly your birth name, surely?!!Yes,Mario,or Freddie Coccocza,as he was called at birth, had an unspeakably beautiful and mega-powerful voice, far greater than the likes of Andrea Bocelli, the blind tenor whom I like.I myself have a very powerful tenor voice and can sing soprano arias also.A High C is a piece of piss for me!I'd love to shatter a wineglass with my high C!!

Una Furtiva Lagrima, Wonderfful musical voice when Lanza was young.I also like his song Come Prima very much.

Lanza had a verey full, melodious speaking voice,as one would expect of a tenor of that magnitude and power.
