wish there was a complex mmo like this nowadays. everythings casual now, mass production adapted to be fitting for every 12y old and be kinda mastered within hours. capitalism conquered the internet and its children

It's such a shame that after UO there hasn't really been a AAA-backed mmorpg that really attempted the full on Sandbox style mmorpg since then (I know there's been indie ones attempt it).Just seems like once EQ hit the scene people just wanted to copy that in terms of the "theme park" world design and then WoW came along and the mmo genre was mostly regulated to the same old game over and over and over.I just find it funny that in the first big "generation" of mmo's with UO/AC/EQ (I know they weren't the first but those were the big ones that brought mmo's really out) each one of them was vastly different form each other. You could load up UO and the game was nothing like EQ and vice versa, AC was like neither and it's monthly updates made the world of Asheron's Call feel so alive and dynamic. I couldn't wait to see what mmo's would be out 10+ years after this, all of the possibilities I thought. Then we got...a bunch of copy + paste copycats with little/no innovation. What made UO special, even to this day, is that it always felt like the most "rp" of an mmorpg. You weren't cast as the "hero" you didn't have to do ANYTHING you didn't want. You want to be the bad guy"? You could, there was no one forcing you to do this or that or play your character how this game designer thought you should.PEople depended on each other, you had to, pkers were abound, you could ask for help at britiania bank and people would actually help you. All of the systems worked together to help promote social interaction, from crafters to tamers to everything. Then along came Trammel, which started to topple what (imo) made UO great, I left short time after and came back around 2006 but it just wasn't the same game I remember.Still I have the wonderful memories and this song brings them all back.
