UK SUBS retford porterhouse

01 violent revolution

The undisputed Godfathers of second wave punk, the UK Subs came crashing onto the scene in 1977 when Charlie Harper fell in love with the new raw sound and dropped out of his R & B band, The Marauders to form a punk rock outfit. By the end of the seventies the Subs were one of the foremost bands on the punk circuit, constantly touring and selling out gigs all over the world. They also became prolific recording artists and enjoyed success in both the mainstream and independent UK charts. Various John Peel sessions were also recorded, as were numerous Top Of the Pops appearances, the last of which was never aired due to a minor stage invasion.

Over a quarter of a century on and the UK Sub's wheels continue to turn and, amazingly, the gigs still sell-out. To find out why go see for yourself. Charlie Harper may well be the oldest teenager in the history of mankind but he maintains an energy and attitude in his performances that would be surprising from someone half his age. Is it any wonder that even today the former hairdresser from Tooting is loved and respected probably more than any other punk vocalist?

The Retford Porterhouse gig was filmed in November 1883 and was one of the first occasions that production company, Jettisoundz used two cameras on a shoot.
