UFO - Pack It Up (And Go) Live 1978 Chicago

Lyrics:

I've got to sympathize

You run with all the rest

You've kept on moving but never got the best

And all our yesterdays go sailing out of view

I know there's something left hope you can make it through

Pack it up and go, pack it up and go,

Leftover from the show, just pack it up and go

You made the impact back in 1969

But now move over friend I think you've had your time

And all our yesterdays go sailing out of view

I know there' something left, hope you can make it through

Pack it up and go, pack it up and go, left over from the show just pack it up and go

And all our yesterdays go sailing know there's something left

Hope you can make it through

A bit of trivia... Chapman does appear on the Strangers of the night album. But not playing guitar. He did play on a bass track or 2. I think it was on This Kid's and Mother Mary. Both of which were performed live in the studio. Not sure why Pete Way wasnt on them.

I agree. He wouldnt have had to learn Schenker's solos note-for-note. Just follow the dynamics while improvising. Schenker never blew his wad throughout the whole solo like Chapman did. It was like he was trying to out do Schenker. Ended up sounding like a big mess.

Yep, Tonka's solos on the Schenker stuff generally sounded like a bag of cats being tortured. Thing is I love his own compositions and soloing but he should never have been let near 'Love To Love', 'Lights Out ' or Rock Bottom'. These songs demanded finesse. Not a squealing mess of notes.

This is Schenker, I had the misfortune of seeing UFO live in Seattle 1982 with Chapman, it was very frustrating.

No it doesn't. Chapman's phrasing is totally different and he's never sounded this melodic on his soloing.

The 'Strangers' show was, in fact, culled from a number of recordings. Officially, Louisville ,Youngstown and Cleveland and of course, Chicago.Magnificently engineered and sounding very fresh to this day.

No, it's definitely Schenker from the Amphitheater, albeit with the tape suffering from a loss of speed.

To be fair the recording is running slow. Phil's voice is lower and the tempo is not what can be heard from recordings of this song from the other recorded shows from the 'Obsession' dates. Still, you get a feeling of how good they were live. The version of 'Lights Out' from the same audience recording is a blinder, even if it is missing the first of Schenker's solos. The solo included is equal to that found on 'SITN'.
