They feed off of an audience reaction, so its not really the audience being rude. In this case its more like people from other cultures not understanding how college male-acapella concerts generally go and projecting their negative stereotypes on that, and then saying that it is concrete evidence. At serious concerts, you'd certainly not find this much rowdiness. You can't just look at a college acapella concert audience of all things and base how all americans act, all the time on that.

I lived in Beijing from when I was 7 months to 4 years old, and been back for most summers (and even one winter) of my childhood. My most recent trip was last year and I've travelled extensively within China over the last two decades. I recently went to Spain/France for a few months, so I've actually spent many months out of the US. Sorry your guess is wrong. I'm very aware of cultural differences, and in the case of these concerts, this is the reaction they are hoping for.

Because of what they're saying/singing in the backs. It's almost impossible to hear on this audio, but the audience is hearing it. Soloist: Can you feel the love tonight? Backs: Yes we can. Soloist: I'm not talking to you... Bass: Sorry! and when they're falling asleep, one of the guys says: "That's right Mr. Giraffe. Lick all the marmalade."
