U2 - Bono "The First Time" acoustic demo video free download

Bono previews an unfinished version of The First Time, perhaps for a journalist. The quality is sub-par, but it was probably recorded on a hand held recorder. Bono gives commentary on the song as he struggles to play, sing and make up the words at the same time. Does anyone know the source of this recording? I used to have it on a tape labeled "Spanish Zoo Radio" but have no other info. Thanks to whackjester on interference.com for the mp3.

sounds like Edge on guitar. Bono can't play in time while talking to a journalist. Agree or no?

i appreciated the remark about this being a bit like Sweet Jane.so, it's like Prince singing a Lou Reed number, in a way.actually, i hear a bit of Jagger in this, too.circa Beast of Burden.

Bono sang this version for a spanish journalist called Julián Ruiz. The interview was made in the Yankee Stadium in NYC, just several months before U2 played in Madrid in 1992.

People ALEAYS say demo versions are better. In this case, you're all wrong. The album version is way more poignant. To me this is just by the numbers white boy soul. They might have realized that and changed it.

He was wise to sing it lower on the record.

I think we all agree.. This version should of been on the album. Nothing is better then Bono's falseto and a acoustic guitar.

I know very well the origin of this recording. It was recorded by Julian Ruiz (spanish radio presenter) in 1992 during an interview with Bono while they were turing their Zootv Outside broadcast in the USA. I remember that bono said he wrote the song for someone else to sing it, that´s why he sings it in falseto. Later on when Julian Ruiz presented Zooropa on the radio he regreated that Bono changed the falseto voice and the faster tempo for the flater and slower version.

How many bands today and how many of us would have been more than satisfied with the very forgettable guitar riff here? Thank god Edge and the rest keep pushing and don't stop at just 'good'.

The guitar chords here are very reminiscent of Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane." I'm glad that the studio recording of "The First Time" use more subtle, muted piano instead.
