A swing blues by Wardell Gray written in 1949 for saxophone solo. In 1952 The piece was given the vocalese treatment by Annie Ross. Vocalese is a genre of jazz where lyrics were written for a piece that was originally a for a solo instrument. This song is perhaps the best known for vocalese setting.

This piece has been covered by Bette Midler and Joni Mitchell, both of which are very different in style.

In fantastic Bette Midler fashion, this song is great. I sing it at gigs as part of my set. Enjoy.
