A rare 1970 recording from Japan unreleased in the U.S. of Bob Shane of the original Kingston Trio performing one of his signature solos backed by members of his 1969-72 edition of the New Kingston Trio.
After the original KT had disbanded in 1967, Shane experimented with solo work for a year and a half before creating a new group that he hoped would continue the tradition of the originals while expanding song selections and styles. This configuration of the NKT lasted for three years and included singer/guitarist/banjoist extraordinaire Jim Connor and the late guitarist and singer Pat Horine. The late Stan Kaess is heard on bass with percussion by Frank Sanchez.
Shane's first recording of "Try To Remember" appeared on the KT's album "#16" in 1963. Written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones as the theme song for their long-running off-Broadway hit "The Fantasticks," this recording adds Kaess's electric bass and Sanchez's percussion as well as a different vocal interpretation by Shane to make this version markedly different from the earlier track.
The audio track here is upconverted from a vinyl LP. Video images are of Shane and the NKT.
