I'm all for him trying something new and doing thrashy vocals instead of screaming. But for God sakes, the chorus IS singing, so why not sing it? That's the only thing that really peeved me about this performance. I didn't like the thrash vocals on a part where he should be singing melodically. Otherwise, I think its pretty cool.

I agree with you that Matt still sounds great here. But can you please give me the source from where you heard/read that Matt said that? From all the interviews I've watched and read, Matt clearly states that he grew up listening to death metal, he was even in a death metal band before joining Trivium. Death metal has a pretty screaming type of vocals from what I know

He was recovering from a drug addiction in the end of 2005-and 2006. That's why there was no screaming on the Crusade. But Shogun was the return for him. His voice in this show was pretty awful, and being a fan of Trivium that's kind of hard for to say, but he made an amazing turn after the drug problem and on In Waves.
