At his Lake Brantley High School talent show, guitarist Matt Heafy performed a cover version of "Self Esteem" by The Offspring. Vocalist Brad Lewter noticed Heafy and asked him to try out for his band. The pair went over to drummer Travis Smith's house where they played Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Impressed with Heafy's performance, they accepted him into the band known as Trivium.

Holy shit that was an amazing performance of that song. One of my favorites, and they just nailed everything perfectly. The harmonies sound so beautiful in this song. Gotta love Trivium. \m/

This was Trivium at their best, In Waves is one of the best metal albums I've heard alongside Disarm The Descent by Killswitch Engage :)

matt talks too fucking much on stage. seen them live a couple times and all he does between songs is blab on and on about nothing. shut up and wail on that guitar.

Yes he is using triggers, that's why every bass hit sounds perfect almost like a click, it makes it cleaner. Triviums songs aren't fast enough to need it, they're common for extreme metal, dummy borgir so the constant double bass notes don't muddle up.If nick wasn't using them you wouldn't hear the improvisation as badly

Nick needs to stop trying to be overly impressive and focus on his part :/ Travis made his parts fun so he didn't need to mess up trying to make them fun live... Believe me I've played through every album since ascendancy on drums! Anyone who says nick is better live needs a slap in the back of the head -.-

this definitely brings memories of when I went to see them for the first time. I wish they'd come to Boston one more time... :(

Im sorry but this video proves how much better of a drummer Travis was than nick. Nick speeds up the songs too much live and cant keep a steady tempo. he was playing it too fast and corey was trying to keep up when he played the solo. Also sounds like he might be using triggers but i dont know...
