When the Clash v.2 came to the SF bay area in '84, Joe did an interview on a radio station called "The Quake" FM99. I started calling the station while at work, at a pizza-by-the-slice shop in a mall in sunnyvale. I got through with some BS question, and all of a sudden I'm on hold at the Quake, thinking I'm gonna talk to Joe! I forget how long Joe rambles on, but some producer comes on the line after joe . something, and says 'Didn't Joe pretty much answer your question just now' (or words to that effect) and got me off the line. I was bummed! I just wanted to talk to Joe! It almost seemed like I didn't care What I said to Joe. Just as long as I got to say something! I was on a mission! I was 17 and stupid. Not even thinking about how difficult it is to get through to a radio station in a major city. I hopped in my vw bug and drove like a madman from the sunnyvale towncenter mall to my house 10 mins away. I start burning up the phone we had in the kitchen, and lightning struck twice, 'cause I go through to the Quake again! I remember desperately trying to think of something to ask Joe, that the interviewer would like and hopefully choose me. So I'm on hold to talk to Joe Strummer for the 2nd time in one day! My question is something about Mick's legal rights to the Clash, and why was Train in Vain on LC but wasn't listed on the label in the middle of the record...I kinda forget exactly. But a little while later, I'm off hold and OZ is asking "you have a question for Strummer?" Instantly, I am so nervous, I forget how to put a sentence together. Forget how to speak. In desperation, I manage to get my questions out, but so nervous I pronounce the words differently than I would normally. It felt like I was on LSD for the few seconds it took me to speak the words....Joe answered with something that made the interviewer chuckle for a secong and I snuck in another ending question "How did Mick take it?" about getting fired. Joe answerd again and it was over....I just talked to Joe! I knew I sounded pretty stupid but I didn't care. I was one of three callers and one of 'em was a kid who sounded cooler then I did...ah well, I just talked to Joe!True story. My buddy Mike recorded the interview on a boombox. Its sitting in a box somewhere in the garage, or storage locker...lost my effing glasses. ignore typos please

I've always wondered, why is it off key at the beginning? Just for character or is it just me?

I love Jack Iron's drumming in this.Such a good song, shows the potential The Latinio Rockabilly War had,a pity it was such a hard time in Joe's life.
