Hmm.....Jerry's dobro... an "American" invention actually designed in 1932 by an immigrant mandolin maker from Slovakia, John Dopyera (with some help from his dad and brother). That's what I love about acoustic music...it has allowed musicians to adopt instruments from all over the world and alter them to suit the music they play. In bluegrass, the guitar is from Spain, the mandolin, mandola and bouzouki are from Greece, the banjo is from Africa, the upright bass and fiddle are from Italy. Only the dobro can thinly be called a "American" invention.

Dillon and Lakeman state that they are happy to introduce this song to listeners. This song was covered by Maura O'Connell 25 years ago on a beyond brilliant album called "Stories"'. Tragically, it's not on YouTube, so I am BEGGING someone, anyone to please post the O'Connell version. If people stopped listening with their eyes, they'd realize how brilliant it is. I'd post it but I don't have the laptop or software to do it!
