I have had the extremely good fortune to listen to these guys live while slinging crepes at Strawberry Music Festival up near Yosemite...and then I had the even better fortune to see their rhythm section team up with Low at Hardly Strictly a few months later. Definitely a Fan's band and seeing them live is highly recommended.

Imagine that, last minute we borrow a flute from another colleague's mom and I practice in the car, only having played an open-key hole flute three times in my life. We're in a black VW bug speeding on the highway from Mineapolis through Golden Valley/Crystal Minnesota. I ask my colleague "what's your confidence level in me?" And he says hardcore "on a scale of 1 to 10, 20." We get to his bandmate's house and then pick up a 6 pack of beer. Get to the recording studio and meet the guys- the bassist, guitar players and mandolinist. There's a few cats around, everyone is eating chips and salsa and grocery store rice. There's a laundry room and the practice rooms are spare bedrooms. There's a pinball machine in the living room. It's a recording studio in a mostly regular house.I found a tenor ukulele tuned to a mandolin tuning and did the Wayne's World "we're not worthy" bit to the producer guy, and everyone laughed. It was a great night. At the end of the night I happen to find out he's the fiddle player for Trampled by Turtles.Then me and my colleague get home in the VW bug and I say, "you know this feels pretty normal, but no matter how I tell the story, nobody's going to believe it." And he says, "I don't believe it either."
