It is a sad song even though it sounds sweet, because the train meant that the father was leaving home to work in south africa far away from the bantus, and he'd leave for atleast a year, seeing his children only a few days a year.

I first heard this entire album while visiting Zimbabwe in 1991. We played it as we drove to South Africa in my cousin's Land Cruiser. When I met Harry Belafonte last year, I told him I learned the Zulu and Xhosa songs he sung with Miriam phonetically. He flashed a big smile and hugged me. What memories! Thanks!!
