Tool. Worst Live Fuckup Ever. Tool Live 2001. Lateralus.

Okay okay, I know this may or may not actually be the absolute worst fuckup, but it's one of the ridiculously rare instances where God himself, Danny Carey, ACTUALLY FUCKS UP. First, Adam Jones delivers a hilarious variation of the Lateralus solo, and then Danny transitions too early at multiple times. It's not technically a technical mistake, it could have been that Danny's monitors may have been failing, leading him to skip ahead in the song. Also, if anybody speaks Japanese, please be so kind and translate for us what Maynard James Keenan says at the very end of this video, thanks!

Anybody that has ever been on stage can tell you that there are 10,000 possible things that can go wrong, but for the drummer if his monitor cuts out one of the other guys or even worse goes completely out you can easily get lost. Or at least a bit confused. Or maybe Danny was just plain having a rough night. Play a hundred shows on a tour and see how you feel.

As a painter more often than not my greatest achievements are accidental. I would see tool just to pray for them to "fuck up" u can't make lemonade without lemons. That's not an invite Maynard! Lol

the string that adam plays the solo on broke so he had to play it on a different string, which I'd imagine caught him off guard

Share your thoughts... What the fuck ever. Been improving my shit through the playlist of TOOL for years. So our boys can't have a sake night and rage a little? You hear what you want in this recording, and agree with the most edgy comments. True fans are tuned veterans... like myself. All I hear is a great night in Japan.

When you write a song with alternating parts of 7/8 8/8 and 9/8 and a solo section that danny plays in 5/4 over a 6/8 feel then criticise (:

Hey,it happens. Being a pretty good drummer myself,I always struggled as to how a song would start. Actually had to make a cheat sheet for myself for when we were playing live.

I was at the Atlanta show, the first show of the Lateralus tour at The Tabernacle, and they almost destroyed the ending to Aenima, I felt bad for them, because I know what it feels like to screw up in front of other people who are watching. Not on that kind of a stage however, so I'm sure the feeling is awful. That being said, I would go see Tool a million more times even if I knew they would screw up every song, but they rarely do. I've seen them 4 times and that's the only time I can remember them screwing up live. Once when they played here in Birmingham,AL at Oak Mountain Amphitheater it was raining for almost the whole show, and I can't remember the name of the song, but the lyrics are "watch the weather change", and I swear to God, when Maynard sang that part of the song it stopped raining for just a brief instant, it was surreal.....just wanted to share. Love you Tool, can't wait for the new record!

nobody is perfect. People who have never played on a stage do not know what its like. For example, if your monitors cut out you cant hear anything but maybe the drums. Also, ive made mistakes live because of the lights flashing in your face or just bumping into another band member and /or dodging shit that is getting thrown. It is live music so if you want to hear exactly whats on the record then just stay home and listen to that. A lot of bands really mold the songs into what they are supposed to be on the road. sort of like an evolution. Tool Rules.

You do know that they improvise a LOT during their live performances, right? There was not a single fuck up in this recording. They were perfectly in time with the song and each other. Go see some improvisational Jazz bands who never play the same thing twice. Just because it's not the album version does not mean that this was a fuck up. This is one of the reasons why Tool is so much better than other bands live.

Danny Carey's on autopilot hey? If he fucks up, everyone else better play along with him cuz he sure as hell isn't listening to them...haha

He's not fucking up, the drums are played in 3/4 while the guitar is played in 4/4... That's how the song was written... Those measures don't fit each other verse to verse, but from the start to finish, they time up perfectly. Go back and listen to the record and time it yourself

its funny, thier music is created through improv....it just sounded a little wierd but it didnt mess up the feel of the song at all hahaha

ive seen tool many times and never heard them get off time or get lost in a song. It always fascinated me how perfect they are live, and being a musician myself I always fear getting off time or train wrecking a song. it doesn't matter if they mess up 1x or 20x. as long as I can see them perform the best that they can that night!!!

Title of this should be "Tool messes up a transition". But I guess that's what you get when you're a band as meticulous as Tool or Pink Floyd.

Drums came in early, shortened the song but they recovered it well actually. :-D
