Truly a gifted man, few and far between. I feel privileged to have lived in his generation seen and heard him.

I love Chets version but this acoustic sound just seems to fit the melody so well. Reminds me of Hawaiian slack key and hollidays in the islands, just what i need on a drab winter day in England

I had been trying to get my ex to see Tommy for years. Sent her all kinds of discs. I forwarded this video to her who in turn sent it to her boyfriend and he immediately ordered 2 tickets to see the Master at the Prinzregententheatre in Munich in November. I'm a TommEvangelist spreading the word that seeing Tommy live is an EXPERIENCE worth having over and over.

I got my tickets to see him in SF in February! 6th year in a row...but not a perfect attendance record. 7th year would be. I also convinced my ex to see him in Munich in November. I'm like a TommEvangelist...see Tommy and be happy!

@musicalhartbeat: That's because he is one artist who truly respects his audience. I know; I've seen him 5 years in a row in San Francisco. And every year I see some of the same people. I try to take new people all the time to experience this. And, the experience is amazing...each and every time!

Tommy's playing blurs the line between music and magic.

Beautiful song and beautiful playing by Tommy! Why is it every song he plays is magical and an out of this world experience?

please: less guitarist- comparing, more music-enyoing!

1. Best Tommy performance I've ever heard; didn't know he had that much nuance, sensitivity, and taste 2. Amazingly beautiful and simple composition by Ray; makes me wonder how artists, and especially technically dazzling players, can sometimes hold back to tap into such beauty. 3. The sound you hear on Neck & Neck represents Knopfler's sensitivities, not Atkins'; none of the latter's 40-50 odd albums have that sonic atmosphere and perfection, cast in the grooves for eternity.

And by the way, Mark Knopfler is a master guitarist of the highest order. Don't get me wrong, I love Tommy, but have you ever heard him sit in with a BAND? I haven't. Knopfler can do it all. He and Chet were almost as awesome together as Chet and Jerry Reed were.

Yes, the Atkins/Knopfler version sounds better, because while Tommy is indeed the greatest living guitarist, he can't play two parts at once (although he frequently sounds like he is). Tommy is far from alone on the top shelf. He's not had the influence Chet Atkins did. Chet called Tommy 'The best I've ever heard', but Chet brought out MANY stars, including Tommy: Stephen Stills, Mark Knopfler, Brian Setzer, and etc. When Tommy passes the torch, he will still be immortal legend, as is Chet.

@TheDeexster dont refer to the greatest living guitar player as " still very good" tommy is the penultimate.

..for the deexster.,mark knopfler is not even in the same lightyear as tommy..and as for chet..well is just another case of the master being outshone by the student.,if you know what im saying....
