Bowie delivers the line, "Sun keeps beating down on me, wall's a mile high", like no other mortal. Great song.

I am a huge Bowie fan and love television. But now anyone can say Bowie's version is better is beyond me. His cod London vocal just doesn't cut the mustard on this track. Verlaine is so under rated

Agree with Catinthehat. The live version is awesome and makes this one sound a little pedestrian.

Great song. Bowie's cover is good, but IMHO harmed by his ridiculous, high camp, over the top vocals. Tom's vocals on Bowie's arrangement from Scary Monsters - now that would be a fantastic rendition.

It's a truly great song (and just a matter of preference if one likes other versions more or less). If Davey ever covered one of my songs I have a suspicion I'd like it more than my own version :) Music x

I'm ashamed to say that this is the 1st time I have heard the original version of this song, having been a lifetime Bowie fan and it took this long. (thank you, YouTube!! I love you!) It's brilliant, his vocals are brilliant, the song's great and thank you, Sir Bowie for finally directing my attention to the source, 30-something years late, still better than never! Apples and oranges as to whose version is "better", I love them both.

Even though Bowie's version is better, the high ground must always go to the song writer. After all, Mott the Hoople did a better eversion of All the young Dudes and yet Bowie wrote it. I song write myself, try Patrick Conneely Leviathan! It's bloody hard to actually write a song yourself...........

You can debate which version is better 'till kindom come, but one thing's for sure: Mr. Bowie liked it a lot, otherwise he wouldn't bother recording it.

If you think Bowie's version is better, try listening to Tom Verlaine's live version of "Kingdom Come" recorded at a 1982 show in London, released as part of his 1996 greatest hits album "The Miller's Tale." One of the two CDs in the package is the entire 1982 live show, featuring Fred Smith of Television on bass. There's also a killer live version of the Television song "Marquee Moon."
