Listening to all these versions I can see why the Alabama one was #1.

There's 4 versions of the song I've heard. This, Johnny Russell, Alabama & the practically unknown original version by Bobby Bare, which I recently posted. All 4 are quite good, though I have to go with Johnny Russell as the ultimate version (no disrespect for Tom & Earl though).

Our local radio station, WMDH in New Castle, IN, played this quite a bit when it was a current single. I like Alabama's version, but I really like this one.

This album was the first introduction to Earl Scruggs that I had as a little kid. My mom had the album on a cassette tape and I wore that thing to a frazzle, listening to it over and over again. Goodbye, Mr. Scruggs!
