Music & Lyrics Tom Petty

There was a little girl, I used to know her

I still think about her, time to time

There was a moment when I really loved her

Then one day, the feeling just died

Chorus

We went straight into darkness

Out over the line

Yeah straight into darkness

Straight into night

I remember flying out to London

I remember the feeling at the time

Out the window of the 747

Man there was nothin', only black sky

(Repeat Chorus)

Oh give it up to me, I need it

Girl, I know a good thing when I see it

Baby wrong or right, I mean it

I don't believe the good times are over

I don't believe the thrill is all gone

Real love is a man's salvation

The weak ones fall the strong carry on

Straight into darkness

Out over the line

Yeah straight into darkness

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers have influenced a lot of artists & bands.

I'm pretty sure that Gotye for one have been listening to TP ; )

They have made a lot of timeless music. This song was released back in 1982, but it could just as well have been 2012.

Welcome to Stockholm Globe arena this summer!

Hopefully I'll be able to be there

Tom always loved the cutting truth. It must be a very hard way to love.

I love this song. I have this on a greatest hits cd. I always thought it sounded much more like one of those pop rock songs from the early-mid 1990's than a song from the early 80's. This song was ahead of its time!!

One flies 'up to' or 'over to', Long Island. Tom, is flying 'OUT to London'. Listen to the f**kin' words. Long Island? Hello??

One of my all time favorite Tom Petty songs, and I have like 500 on my computer. :P Obsessive? Meh. A little, I guess. LOL

Yes, and don't forget "Something big" recorded about the same time 30 years ago and a really good part of his live show in 2012.
