This is the first of four videos from the Santa Monica DVD, currently available on the Deluxe Edition of the new "Live Anthology". "Surrender" was a song that TP had written during the final days of The Heartbreakers' first album. For the next four records (including the "Long After Dark" sessions after Ron Blair left), the band tried to get a good performance of the song, but they couldn't. It was always performed well live. A studio version was never attempted until 1999 during the "Echo" sessions, for release on 2000's "Anthology: Through the Years". In November 2010, a version recorded for "Damn the Torpedoes" surfaced on the two-disc Deluxe Edition of that album.

I've always loved Tom Petty, for over 20 years, and I never knew this song even existed. Surrender is a brilliant song, easily one of his best! Love it!!

Why isn't this getting more views? I watch it at least once a day. Petty's best song that nobody has ever heard. Love it!
