Todd appeared on the October 29, 1989 episode of the short-lived music television show Night Music. He performed three songs: "Can't Stop Running" and "Parallel Lines" from his new album, Nearly Human, and a surprise rendition of a number from the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, H.M.S. Pinafore (assisted by Taj Mahal and Michele Gray)!

The house band included such great players as Omar Hakim (drums), Tom Barney (bass), Hiram Bullock (guitar), Don Alias (percussion), Philippe Saisse (keyboards), and host David Sanborn (saxophone.)

Outstanding! I wish I had followed Todd more closely when I was serving my apprenticeship years in music! I always loved everything I heard he do, but that was mostly radio and didn't really rediscover and research him until recently and thus, didn't comprehend his vast diversity! It's funny that a while ago I said to myself that he is the Gilbert and Sullivan of contemporary music. Todd is absolutely one of my A-list composer/performers of all time! Thanks for posting this treasure! Blessings!

Genius. Can't believe I've never seen this rendition. Thanks for posting it. Parallel Lines is probably my all time fave TR song. Just amazing, wistfully melancholy lyrics that are so heartbreakingly crafted around a haunting melody. This slower version really brings that component out.

That's Doug Katsaros playing the piano! You left his name off of your description. I only know that because I know him.

THANK YOU so much for posting this! Perhaps the most beautiful Todd performance I've seen and I've loved this guy for a long long time.

A brilliant song, tainted only by the piano players hair style! TR of somehow managed to ride through this era of bad hair still looking cool though!

Just heard the conversation and, yes indeed, this does "have legs." This version is good as well as the studio version which is fabulous, give it a listen if you can. Todd Rundgren is quite talented and I like all the songs he has put out. This particular song I play every day and I play it repeatedly. Just love this. Thank you for this post.
