Todd appeared on the October 29, 1989 episode of the short-lived music television show Night Music. He performed three songs: "Can't Stop Running" and "Parallel Lines" from his new album, Nearly Human, and a surprise rendition of a number from the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, H.M.S. Pinafore (assisted by Taj Mahal and Michele Gray)!

Also appearing on backup vocals is Todd's longtime friend and fellow Utopian, Kasim Sulton.

The house band included such great players as Omar Hakim (drums), Tom Barney (bass), Hiram Bullock (guitar), Don Alias (percussion), Philippe Saisse (keyboards), and host David Sanborn (saxophone.)

the amount of talent on this stage is absurd, you have Kasim Sulton singing back up , Hiram Bullock on guitar and Godd Rundgren....please.

one of the best live performances of this song even better than the "live in Japan" version...

Hmm...didn't realize he changed the lyrics for this song from the original record. Interesting.

I was just noticing how much fun the band seems to be having. Check out how Omar breaks out into a huge grin at 3:35 when Todd holds the big note and the band comes barreling back in for the rideout. And how Don Alias does the same at the end stop (4:15). They knew they were involved in a magic moment!

There is a bizarre rumour going around that Todd Rundgren dresses to the left. Is there any truth in this?
