Today was an R&B group who were labeled the new Four Tops in the late 80s and early 90s. Its members were Lee Drakeford (aka Big Bub or Bubba), Larry Singletary, Wesley Adams, and Larry McCain, who were friends from Englewood, New Jersey. Teddy Riley secured a deal for Today, whose debut album was released in 1988 on Motown Records. That album produced hits such as 'Him or Me', 'Take It Off', 'You Stood Me Up', 'Girl I Got My Eyes On You', and 'Take Your Time'. Today's shining moment was their hit, Why You Get Funky on Me, from the House Party Soundtrack in 1990. Their second album The New Formula, didnt bring any success, except the minor hit, I Got The Feeling. After Today disbanded, Drakeford set out on a solo career, and recorded the hits, I Like Your Style (from the House Party II Soundtrack), and Telling Me Stories.
