This is probably one of the most polarising songs of all time. Most people either love it or hate it. I was asked recently to play it after first tinkering with it several years ago. I decided to do the arrangement on the Yamaha Electone HX-1. Even though this instrument is over 20 years old, I still think it holds its own. The only "help" the HX-1 gets is from a Yamaha AVS-10 voice expander, which was basically an optional extra for Electones of the late 80's.

In the spirit of Electone, all the notes (and mistakes) are live. The onboard sequencer is used only for the rhythm and registration changes.

Everybody, you have gotta love that vox humana choir organ voice in this piece of music (it is just as the original was played)! Too bad Yamaha doesn't sell Electone and Stagea Organs in the U.S. market (they are only sold in the Asian market)! Over here, you could put two Yamaha Keyboards one behind and above the other, but if you do that, you can't use the music desk on the lower one, because it will be in the way! Also, they can't be interconnected without a computer, especially if one is MIDI and the other is USB to host (not device), with a USB female to USB male connector piece! (Tried that, didn't work together, a YPT 200 and a YPT 330)! The only two manual organs we can get here are from Hammond and Nord and they average $2895 and $3699 respectively! Other than that, you would have to go the home or church organ route for thousands more, or do a keyboard setup with Hauptwerk for less (but you still need realistic hardware such as the console that you have)!

As an organist/keyboardist/synth player, have to say, that is beautiful.

Does the avs-10 work standalone as well?I'm thinking of buying one but I can't figure out if it works without being connected to an Electone.
