Scenes from a Memory...

" Strange to see the sun don't shine todayBut I ain't in the mood for sunshine anywayMaybe I'll go insane, got to stop the painMaybe I'll go down to see KathleenSwallow comes, tells me her dreamsSays she'd like to know just what they meanFeel like I could die as I watch her flying byRiding the north wind down to see KathleenStars hang high with the ocean roarThe moon has come to lead me to a doorIt's crystal 'cross the sand, the waves they take my handSoon I'm gonna see my sweet KathleenSoon I'm gonna see my sweet Kathleen... The strings are the worst part about Townes' original recording but here Tindersticks have turned those same string parts into something more beautiful. It suits their sound.

You made valid points and since we can't go back and see how things would have turned out without the US being involved, we can only speculate. Let's agree that we are both better off having English as our main language and that we are both happy with our birthlands. Ciao! From a 100% Italian-American

Checked by to see if you'd responded to my replies... but er, there seems to be so little of it. Gokoūn o inorimasu.

Secondly, the war you refer to began in 1939, when Britain and her allies took a stand against fascism, whilst the US enjoyed a happy isolation, and not paying full attention to a world in turmoil. It took Japan in 1941, 2 years into the war for a slumbering US to lurch ungainly into action after Pearl Harbour. The US did make a valuable input, as did all the allies including just as notably as the US, the Russians. Maybe you should thank the wider world for you not speaking Japanese!

Firstly the comment was not a criticism of any entente the US and UK have shared, and I'd draw caution to any patriotic chest beating on that subject. It's been a far from one way exchange, and on the US part, they've been paid handsomely, including interest for it. The US operated a cash up front policy for weapon supplies, not even risking delivery, until a full year into the war when they finally took sides and provided aid. At the start of WW2, the US declared neutrality.

I'm a huge Tindersticks fan and it does seem like you're a bit more familiar with your musical history than duncecap65 is, but there is a little bit of our "so little of it" history that I'm sure even you can appreciate. That would be when we decided to help out with what was going on in Europe about 70 years ago after the Germans decided they needed more land. I know it pales in terms of your history, but I guess it at least gave you the chance to be able to make your comment in English!

Dear idiot - skiffle originated in the United States, whilst the folk music that influenced this song was being made in Britain hundreds of years before us British, the French, Germans, Scandinavians, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch settled that plot of land you now live in. I'm just surprised that you would offload some of your own history, when you have so little of it to begin with. Duncecap, very apt...

been looking for this song for a long time. Used to have the live version, but the studio version seems more compelling.
