"Timeless Skies" was released on Al Stewart's eighth studio album, Time Passages, in the fall of 1978. The album reached #10 on the U.S. charts and the title single reached all the way to #7 (#1 on Adult Contemporary charts).

This is my 2nd video for a song from Time Passages album ("Palace of Versailles" being the other) and my 4th for an Al Stewart song. Working on this video was one of those experiences where what I was finding kept pushing me towards another song...in this case, for the song "Time Passages". Both songs are narratively and structurally similar enough that with only a few adjustments, this video would suit the other song....but of course, there is much more that can be done effect wise with "Time Passages" so I look forward to melding some of the feel (and a few bits) from this one into a new experience for "Time Passages" in the not too far distant future. Still hoping to finally finish up a couple of my bigger Al Stewart epics one day as well.

Till then, hope you enjoy this one.

Special thanks as always to everyone who's art contributed to this new art! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

[Lyrics]

While traveling northwards on a back country lane

I came on the village where first I grew

And stopped to climb up the hill once again

Looking down from the tracks to the gray slate roofs

I watched the village moving as the day went slowly by

In the fields we lay here, my very first love and I

Under timeless arcadian skies

Under timeless arcadian skies

The old canal lies sleeping under the sky

The barges are gone to a lost decade

On overgrown banks here, lovers' footsteps went by

Long before ever the roads were made

And in our turn we passed here and carved our names on trees

As the days washed by like waves of an endless sea

Under timeless arcadian skies

Under timeless arcadian skies

Time runs through your fingers

You never hold it at all till it's gone

Some fragments just linger with you

Like snow in the spring hanging on

I left the village behind in the night

To fade like a sail on the darkening seas

The shifts and changes in the patterns of life

Will weather it more than the centuries

And in another village, in a far off foreign land

The new day breaks out opening up its hand

And the sun has the moon in his eyes

As he wanders the timeless skies

this is a super duper class video and i so love it and the beauty of the pictures it gives me a thrill to the core of my marrow and touch my feelings to the degree of tickling tears channels, it is pure nostalgia from a forever lost childhood and youth that is forever gone.

Thank you, MetalGuruMessiah, for such a beautiful video. Goodness, the folks who did the filming are brilliant. I like how the scenes match so well with the lyrics. It is poetry come to life.
