Never really been a big Tim McGraw fan, but I always liked this song. The song was written by talented songwriter Gary Burr. I remember there was a period of time when I heard a bunch of good country songs, like Doug Stone singing "Too Busy Being In Love", and I'd go to check out who wrote it, and many, many times it was Gary Burr. The list of great songs he has written is too long to include here.

Anyway, this is a very bittersweet and melancholy song.

Can't believe I have to turn off The Dead for this shit. Clearly, coursera has never heard a song penned by Robert Hunter.

It still sounds like it could be the mere THOUGHTS of someone in denial of a sudden death of a loved one...he felt guilty because of unspoken words, or maybe an unresolved fight, but was not able to accept her passing.

No matter how beautiful she is, somewhere there's someone tired of putting up with her s__t.

Still not buying the death interpretation. Yes, it's plausible, but the single line "when I've seen the error of my ways" sort of shoots that down. She left for whatever reason, and it was his fault. If she died, it wasn't an "error" on his part. They had some kind of fight, he cheated on her, whatever, she suddenly up and left, and he is regretful and hopeful to get another chance.
