I don't think he was using as a way to "shove opinions down someone's throat". I think he did it just in case someone reading the messages doesn't get offended when they read he is an atheist since people always seem to get real sensitive when it comes to topics such as religion.

Look just a little past the facade, and you'll see. Or don't. You could always go learn how to type properly. And my point was, people who say that they can have their own opinions use that as a barrier so they can shove their opinions down others' throats, then hide behind the "keep it to yourself" idea when the retaliation comes.
