Okay I wasn't going to do this, I know I could just try and think of a snarky thing to say back to but in the spirit of weed and brotherly goodwill I'll try bring it back to humanity and i apologise for speaking like an anonymouse douche. This Mortal Coils album I only bought because I needed to have their version of "Song to the Siren" This cover was the first song and to be honest i used to skip it automatically but I heard the string part (1:54 - 2:28 ) one nite on e and it changed everything

Yes new wave cliche, those vocals sound like any other 4AD bullshit pop band. Trying to sound deep and meaningful but really just sounding like he doesn't care. Get some goddamn taste and you'll realize this is a bullshit cover. No, my ears are fine, this version replaces all the charm and beauty of the original with new wave cliche, the vocals especially. It has none of the awesome sonic detail that big star had, all the quirky noise is replaced with a dorky synth. Just an awful cover.
