1991 "Blood"

I come and stand at every door

But no one hears my silent dread

I knock and yet remain unseen

For I am dead, for I am dead

I'm only seven although I've died

In hiroshima long ago

I'm seven now as I was then

When children die they do not grow

My hair was scorched by swirling flame

My eyes grew dim, my eyes grew blind

Death came and turned my bones to dust

And that was scattered by the wind

I need no fruit, I need no rice

I need no sweet, nor even bread

I ask for nothing for myself

For I am dead, for I am dead

All that I ask is that for peace

You fight today, you fight today

So that the children of this world

May live and grow, and laugh and play

- Wiki "...based on a poem by Nazım Hikmet and a traditional tune, previously performed both by Pete Seeger and by The Byrds"

Phantastic, not just the music but also the lyrics and its content (which harmonises perfectly) There is a poem from Karl Kraus about Kants "Zum ewigen Frieden" ("Torward eternal peace") which expresses the same trugh with similar worlds: "Nie las ein Blick von Tränen überrannt, ein Wort wie dieses von Immanuel Kant..." meaning this hope for eternal peace in a world in which the one who hopes so cant live anymore. Here this mortal coil put it in the mouth of the ghost of a japanese victim from eternal war.

I love This Mortal Coil but hate the content of the lyrics of this song, sympathy for the devils. How about a hymn for Hitler Youth next?

epic song ... but i think she sings : " You fight today, you fight to die" and not today twice

"@lundehund44 It's not pointless when the total ensemble is comprised of dreampop/ambient artists. Ambient being a subgenre of, you guessed it, "Noise". The atmospheric instrumentation are the *entire* point of the "Blood" album"Fuck off mate, you prick.

The lyrics are a somewhat loose translation of a Nazım Hikmet poem, "Kız Çocuğu" (which means "Little Girl" in Turkish).

@AlienXSVideo Thank you for that information. I've always thought this was the most devastatingly brilliant arrangement and performance of the song. I wonder if they ever did a video?
