the best song on Black Rose. sure its not an epic Celtic song, but its the most expressive and heartfelt song they ever did with Gary Moore, in my opinion. i love the solo in the middle. its so effing awesome and fun to play also. my favorite Gary Moore solo. WITH LOVE is hard to beat. i think its my 2nd favorite TL song at the moment, only second to VAGABOND

Ditto on all accounts. I've always loved Scott Gorham the most, He's so behind the scenes, but always there, and appreciates by all Lizzy fans!!

Well, if we're being honest, on Bad Reputation he began the recording process as the lone guitarist and Robbo came in later to do overdubs, plus solos on 3 of the 9 tracks, so Robbo contributed a lot more than 10% there ;) As you said, Gorham had that lovely, laid-back style and a nice tone but he was a late bloomer, only really improving once Moore joined the band...Robbo tried to blow Gorham away, but Moore held back a lot and Gorham learned a lot from him, as a result. They had a good blend

He took the agressive role once before: the Bad Reputation album. that's 90% Gorham's playing you hear there, it took me so long to realise that wah solo on the title track is actually Scott! Also, off topic: Robbo's solo on Opium Trail might be the most orgasmic solo I've ever heard! Long story short, Gorham always had the chops, people tend to forget that he was a big part in the lizzy sound. And definately on his earlier lizzy work he really shines on phils more laid-back, dylanesque tracks.

Gary Moore's playing on this is outstanding.. especially towards the end,

That is true of all his co-guitarists, except for Snowy, who was sooooooooo laid back and passive, that Gorham had little choice but to step up his efforts yet further and become the "aggressive" player. When Sykes came in later, Gorham was able to revert back to type, although his chops had improved considerably by then

Pretty true. Gorham was pushed by Tony Visconti to step up his game for the Bad Rep album since Robbo had been fired. He was only brought back in to lay down a few leads AND do the following tours at Lynott's request. When the tours were over, Robbo quit. Gorham and Downey begged him to keep playing the tours AFTER they did L&D but Robbo was being a git. In stepped Moore for Black Rose, til the partying was more important than the music. He bailed, then came Midge Ure. Saw them both in '79... ;)
