Lyrics & Information

A great session of Downtown Sundown recorded in 1977. Thin Lizzy is said to have recorded 43 individual recordings, featuring 41 different songs, with two tracks recorded twice, for the Stuart Henry radio programme and released via the BBC.

Lyrics :-

If you want your freedom

There is nothing planned

If you really need him

I will understand

Please believe in love

I believe there is a God above

For love

And He's coming

If you want to fly

Then fly away

All the cloudy skies

Belong to yesterday

Please believe in love

I believe there is a God above

For love

And He's coming

Yes, He's coming

And in the shadow

A swallow dies

No-one knows

The hobo hides

There is no need to apologise

This is the story of a downtown sundown

Oh

[Solo]

If you climb the mountain

Then you will see

There is no great distance

Between the Lord and me

Please believe in love

I believe there is a God above

For love

And He's coming

Yes, He's coming

And in the shadow

A swallow dies

No-one knows

The hobo hides

There is no need to apologise

This is the story of a downtown sundown

this song is one of my all time favorites from any band. I just love Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott. SO many great songs . Wish he was still with us.

@captainsoul1953 Most of the Peel Sessions I've ever heard are not live performances. They're usually just re-recordings of the songs. But I think it's awesome because it gives a different production/sound to the song which in some instances is even better than the album versions.
