Lyrics & Information

Taken from Thin Lizzy's 'Shades of a Blue Orphanage' album, this is their second album on their label Decca. Superb driving song and tells a great story about 3 very different people from various walks of life and their encounters with the police. Eric Bell's screaming guitar is mind blowing.

Lyrics :-

[Intro] Uh!

Betty was worried about the lover that she married

And she didn't know what to do

He'd been hit by a hammer over the head and he lay dead

An' all her worse fears came true

[Chorus]

Call the police x 4

Johnny was a joker and a very heavy smoker

And he never ever broke the law

Thin Miss Lizzy was a kept very busy

And sometimes very dizzy, we knew what for

[Repeat chorus]

And take 'em all away

Lock 'em up!

[Repeated chorus with slight variation]

Louie was a loner and a big time Al Caponer

Doin' all his dippin' from the door

He knew a shady dealer who had done a dirty DJ

The sooner he could settle the score

[Repeat Chorus]

An' lock em up!

Have ya anythin to say!?

Take 'em all away!

Thin Lizzy is Thin Lizzy with Eric Bell or Brian Robertson....any Lizzy clone without those 2 just simply is not Lizzy

Always thought this would have been a great live track for a 1976-78 Lizzy

I saw them on the first tour without Phil, and there were times that I could swear Phil was singing even though I knew it was John. I was fortunate enough to see them in 79 on the Black Rose tour and they were fucking AMAZING. Phil was the best showman and an amazing player. Too bad there weren't any other great bands out of Ireland. U2 sucks and Skinhead O Connor is a disgrace.

John Sykes sings now..when they are touring :-) They have had several problems the last years and cancelled some of them..John Sykes have had earing problems and a operation. But when they play now its John Sykes who sings & guitar..he played guitar on Thunder & Lightning and hes best song in the Thin Lizzy-period must be cold sweat. He has also been singing in Whitesnake after David Coverdale.
