It's about the monolith from 2001: Space Odyssey. I can't believe no one's said that yet. It's not actually, but the Space Odyssey's monolith and the statue Linell describes are perfect parallels.

Just a thought 420 meeting statue, Kids smoking after school? Well a lot of coicidences. But if Linnell says otherwise I believe.

The stone didn't call to one person. Shame!

I first heard this song when I was still a Christian so I thought it was about being sucked into demonic possession. As an atheist, this song makes much more sense and I thought, "Oh, it's about someone becoming obsessed with something to the point that it engulfs him." Thanks for posting this.

Pretty much, but again, they've explained their songs here and there over the years when asked. In fact, they actually made a song by song explanation of their album "Factory Showroom" called "A Guided Tour of the Factory Showroom". Anyway, they have really a long history of writing songs about how they perceive fans and critics viewing them, an example being their 'theme', the song titled "They Might Be Giants".

You mean like everyone did with this song?

Flansburgh clarified that specifically it's about over-analyzing art and reading more into it than is there; The speaker has his mind blown by something simple and unimportant "like a park statue in the middle of town or something", because he's read way more into it than there actually is to say about the statue.

Linnell has said that it's about this dude that's looking at a statue whose head then explodes.

@sking8: Blink is an episode of Doctor Who with these creatures called Weeping Angels, and the episode is called Blink. The Weeping Angels are statues, that if they touch you, they send you back into another time, and you can never get back to your own time. You're as good as dead.

This makes me think of a pot head going into a starring contest with a weeping angel (looking into their eyes long enough turns you into a weeping angel)

A great number: danceable and unfathomable.

This Slavic freak loves TMBG. Apollo 18 is one of the few non-Slav albums I listen to!
