People. This song is completely ironic - the narrator is unreliable. Just listen to the lyrics, Linnell is writing from the perspective of a lazy artist who blames "society" for his lack of relevant output. This is a brilliant takedown of all who (in our generally open society) make excuses and blame others outside of themselves for their slacking.
