The classic theme by Francis Lai for the romantic drama, Love Story (1970). Starring Ryan O'Neil and Ally McGraw in star making turns, Love Story is indeed a classic as it follows two students at Harvard, their unlikely love affair and the impending tragedy that lies in their way.
Whilst not a favorite of mine, Love Story does endure as one of the most romantic films of all time.

On this day in 1971 {June 6th} Peter Nero performed "The Theme from Love Story" on the final episode of 'The Ed Sullivan Show'*...This was Mr. Nero eleventh and obviously last appearance on the 'Sullivan' show...Peter Nero's only Top 100 record came later in 1971 when on October 10th his covered version of "The Theme from The Summer of 42" entered the Top 100, it eventually peaked at #21 and stayed on the chart for 13 weeks...Mr. Nero, born Bernard Nierow, celebrated his 81st birthday fifteen days ago on May 22nd {2015}...* This was actually a repeat of the February 7th, 1971 live broadcast of the show; the first episode of the ‘Sullivan’ show was on June 20, 1948; it ran for 24 seasons with a total of 1,069 episodes...8 years ago
