The Yearlings are an alt.country/americana group that came together in the unlikeliest of places: Utrecht, the Netherlands. They formed in September 1999, played all kind of stages and festivals, and recorded two albums: The Yearlings in 2002, and Utrecht in 2004. The Yearlings disbanded in 2006. Lyrics:

Family ties used to be what it was all about

Now they're all harder to live with than to do without

And when that feeling's gone it won't be long before it starts again

Still you're laughing in the poison rain

You sit at home and try to make sense of what they say

Well, all they mean is to get you down then they walk away

With the family ties around your neck you know you're bound to fall

If blood's thicker than water, does it flow at all?

What keeps you laughing in the poison rain

Somehow I believe they'll be driving you insane

What keeps you laughing in the poison rain

Somehow I believe they'll be coming around again

For one moment you only see how it could have been

Should I be really glad to see you smiling again

With the family ties around your neck you know you're bound to fall

If blood's thicker than water, does it flow at all?

What keeps you laughing in the poison rain

Somehow I believe they'll be driving you insane

What keeps you laughing in the poison rain

Somehow I believe they'll be coming around again

For one moment you only see how it used to be

You grab the phone and find the number in your memory

Thanks for your compliment, Roxann! Yes, it's a sad song indeed. I had to sort through the pictures of the band for ones on which those guys didn't look too happy :-)

Nicely done! Sad song, though.
