Today it's ten years ago Utrecht, the second album of The Yearlings, was released. A fine reason to create a slideshow for another one of the tracks on Utrecht (2004): Charlie Tears. Enjoy, among other things, the fiddles and the ironic story :-)

The Yearlings are an alt.country/americana group that came together in the unlikeliest of places: Utrecht, the Netherlands. They formed in September 1999, played all kind of stages and festivals, and recorded two albums: The Yearlings in 2002, and Utrecht in 2004. The Yearlings disbanded in 2006. Drummer Leon Geuyen now plays with The Gasoline Brothers.

Lyrics:
Charlie Tears had a rock 'n roll band
But none of the guys he could really stand
For their gift to turn all his songs
into stupid sing-alongs
He found it hard and harder each day
To tune his guitar and keep it that way
Ten weeks and no sign of fame
He knew who was to blame
And he said:
Hey now, can anyone kill the pain?
Who's gonna stop the rain
When life is just a mess?
I make the sun shine upon you
With a colorful song or two
About a love that's gonna last
And here's a song, a cry-along
That won't ever leave your head
You'll believe that i must be
The saddest man you've ever met
Charlie wound up in the coffeehouse scene
Brightest people he had ever seen
But could they not hear Bukowski in
The words he had to sing?
Well honestly, the answer is no
Soon everybody was ready to go
Still audible through the noise
Was the lisping in his voice
And he said:
Hey now, can anyone kill the pain?
Who's gonna stop the rain
When life is just a mess?
I make the sun shine upon you
With a colorful song or two
About a love that's gonna last
And here's a song, a cry-along
That won't ever leave your head
You'll believe that i must be
The saddest man you've ever met
