This gig was just nuts. Gotta love the vintage Entwistle looking bored while playing the hell out of the bass.

Not many, They were in debt up until Tommy came out. As they were spending a fortune replacing instruments. Pete moved to Fenders as you can mend them and replace necks easily.

Pete was on Letterman talking about this show. He said one of the guys working for the Smothers Brothers had just been given notice. Keith asked the guy to load his drum to explode at the end. The guy overloaded it on purpose, thanks to Keith's prompting. Pete didn't know it was going to blow. He lost his hearing for a month and his hair caught fire. You can see him patting out the fire as he comes back in frame.

The Smothers Brothers show was one of the best TV shows ever. Their politics banned them forever to Hollywood Devil's Island. A major reason for LBJ decision to not run in '68. See Judy Collins "Someday Soon" on SM show: watch?v=w70-1b9SCj0.

In the wings, Betty Davis fainted at the sound of the explosion while Mickey Rooney jumped up and down for more. The Who crossed barriers by obliterating them.

Watching Keith carefully, one can tell that they are miming to the original studio track (with the exception of Roger's vocal, I believe)- the sounds of shock in the audience after the explosion make this pure gold.
