Seen both The Who and Led Zepp in the 70's in the UK and both were great but it is hard not to focus on the singer even with the naked eye. This vid shows why Daltrey in my opinion was far better than Plant when it comes to a visual performance and was totally mesmerising and on top of his game in the mid 70's.

Entwistle's bassline makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!! One of the most honest from the heart songs from one of the greatest Who albums ever recorded!

Great bass solo. Pete was probably jealous. And the fact that Roger used to like to play it , got on his nerves as well , as commented on the R & B video.

I've been Dreaming from the Waist on down for some time now...and The Lady's sad sad story does have me quietly weeping too...'By Numbers'...very underrated.

JoCote. Most media people had no idea how the Who sound worked. Surprised that the chaps didn't set up their own video company to teach the rock world. Some particularly useless cameramen close up on Moonie when it's the Ox.Guess they want flash and bang and not bang flash. Think Pete hated it because Rog loved it. It's in my top 3. Not just of the Who but of anyone.

no offense meant to the great Pete Townshend, but I can't believe the camera man just focused on Pete chomping away on power chords while John played some of the most amazing lines ever heard in rock bass history.

The playing is just magnificent. There's something so loose and spontaneous about it all; like a band that's play together forever. I don't say this because this is my favorite band of all time, but THEY ARE my favorite band of all time! So there! Thank you Who and Pete for bringing us the music of our lives!

"Singing a song without me. Only at the end does it lift off." .... gotta be Behind Blue Eyes.

By Numbers is my favorite Who studio album, not a bum song on it. Townshend has always been best by being a realist lyrically and that album is as real as it gets!

@happykilojoule Although your post is 2yrs old now, I couldn't agree with you more! "By Numbers" was (is) a GREAT album, with; Slip Kid, How Many Friends, Dreaming' From the Waist Down, Blue, Red, and Grey, However Much I Booze, and of course, the "pop ditty" Squeeze Box, just to name a few. HIGHLY underrated!
