But Kurt Cobain got that from Black Francis and Nirvana's whole sound was influenced and even based on the Pixies sound. The Vines first album was all so over the top like this to the point people thought it was a joke. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Either way it's a damn good song from a damn good band.

This was just stupid. I remember seeing this and thinking that same thing. The Vines were never good live. There was always a lot of studio effects on his voice, double tracking, and harmonizing. He couldn't scream on key either. Whether they were Nirvana rip offs is whatever. They made some pretty great tunes, power pop if you will but they were never anywhere near Nirvana in terms of songwriting, energy, performance, and charisma.

The Vines are actually pretty good live when the lead singer's not having an off day. Keep in mind, the guy has some crazy problems with Aspergers and will occasionally have fits over it.
