Best ever, The verve, Ashcroft, McCabe. slide away.

Don't understand why people get their knickers in a twist over who's better than who- I grew up with The Verve, Oasis and The Stone Roses. If you're talking talent then it's The Verve by a mile and I base that on a number of things including the difficulty of trying to emulate Nick McCabe's guitar compared to that of John Squire or Noel Gallagher- he's a far better player and also more innovative than either of them, only someone who doesn't play guitar would fail to recognize that. The Roses had a multitude of sins corrected in the studio, I've seen Ian Brown live and he can't sing well at all, John Squire also regularly cocked up his live stuff- still love them though. Richard Ashcroft has a terrific singing voice, I could not believe how good he was live- it's all opinion of course but why be a dick about it? Would anybody disagree that the Beatles were a lot more successful than the Who? Would anybody else disagree that The Who were a hell of a lot more talented as musicians and infinitely better live? Same principle, success does not necessarily dictate superiority.

i was there.it was 25th somethin aniversary of glastonbury festival.special time,sunny weather,the cure,pj harvey,oasis,page and pland and of course verve.McCabe had a technical problems with his amp so it took some time to fix it.nervous moment.after this concert i realised that McCabe is one of the greatest guitarists ever....

Remember watching this on the telly at the time, saw them a few weeks later at T in the Park (following which they split)...still gives me goosebumps and transports me back to that hot summer

This is (The) Verve in their best phase if you ask me, spacey and pyschedlic. Wasn't really into their later stuff and found out about this only a few years ago. It gave me renewed respect for them though as it's just brilliant, I only wish they stuck it out a bit more than just the one album.
