The most majestic version of OCEAN ever cut. When this was first issued on LP, I had the first three albums already deep in my DNA, but the "VU" LP was a true revelation. Lou has performed this song many times over the years, but for myself this is the one. Rest in peace, our friend.

Listen to the outtake version from VU. You might like it even better than this one.

Listen to this in an isolated part of a bay area, any bay area where ever you live. It is truly remarkable how the Velevet's created sounds juxtaposed with conjured images.

From 2:40 - 2:54 (and at other parts but this is where I remember seeing it on this time line) does anyone else hear the beginning to Led Zeppelin - Ramble On with the guitar/bass? I was like, where have I heard it before?

Lou's voice just takes over my brain. Like a hand traveling up my spine and grabbing my brain. If you are looking for new music influenced by The Velvet Underground try searchingThe Stumble and Shake - Panic Attack (Earthquake Version)you may be in for a surprise!

I like the melody to this piece because of its 1960's feel to it.

This is one of my favourite VU songs. Let the waves take you.

Maybe I'm alone in this thought, but he was actually pretty hot in the early years. Just look at the picture they used with the alternate take of Ocean video (the first result when you search "Velvet Underground Ocean") But he didn't need to be 'cute' - He was bad ass. The raw simplicity and honesty of his words and music made him far more attractive than any of the dime-a-dozen pretty boys that pass for musicians now. (Ugh, I hate having to use past tense with him now. What a legend...)
