Man, it's weird seeing him in baggy jeans lol. Nowadays every band that has any screaming wears all skinny jeans.

Nah, I'd say they're more skramz than hardcore, but the melo hardcore influences are very prominent. But if you listen to The Lack Long After in it's entirety, it feels more like a skramz record than a melo hardcore one. Plus, most of the tracks are too lengthy for a hardcore release.

I always thought Pianos Become the Teeth was more of a melodic hardcore band like Touche Amore or something. I've heard very little PBTT though, so don't judge me for saying that haha And yes, The Used is a sweet album

You could also point him to some more "modern" incarnations of the genre. Like Pianos Become the Teeth, Circle Takes the Square, Hot Cross, and The Saddest Landscape. Although, some of those can also be considered Hardcore. But yeah, all of the 00 era "emo" bands are almost always Post-Hardcore or Alt Rock with some screams thrown it. The stuff's way more melodic than skramz, where the music is often very abrupt (tempo changes wise) and dissonant. IN CONCLUSION The Used's S/T album is rad.

It was a term to describe an offshot of hardcore punk called "emotive hardcore" Rites of Spring is one of the "main" bands of that style. Screamo would be stuff like Orchid, I Hate Myself, Pg 99

Sunny Day Real Estate is a REAL emo band. The Promise Ring, American Football, etc.

I don't really know who started being "emo" as a genre. Chris from the Dashboard says that they are alternative rock, Bert from the Used says its just there style of rock and roll. . . Can anybody tell me who started it?
